This guide was made by Buster Wolf.
Unlike Dynasty Warriors which was a fighting game Dynasty Warriors 2 was the start of the 1 vs 100 Musou style of game play you are familiar with nowadays. There is not much to unlock or cover with Dynasty Warriors 2 so this guide encompasses all you can do in it.
Character Unlocking
This will detail how to unlock all 28 character for use in Free Mode

Musou Mode
All characters go through the same 5 stages in Musou Mode regardless of who you pick, they all share the same first two stages that being Yellow Turban Rebellion & The Battle at Hu Lao Gate, the remaining three are based on which kingdom they belong to. Characters counted as Others have no Musou Mode and can only be used in Free Mode.

Dim Sum
All stages have a Dim Sum which increases max Health & Musou by 10, certain sides also have additional Dim Sum drops by defeating certain generals for even more increases. These are located in pots outside of the general drops.
Yellow Turban Rebellion
After Cheng Yuanzi is defeated go through the gate and head North until you can climb the wall, it is located at the Northern end of the wall.
Yellow Turbans: Liu Bei, Sun Jian, Cao Cao.
The Battle at Hu Lao Gate
On Fan Shui Gate's East side.
Dong Zhou's Forces: Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Gongsun Zan, Sun Jian.
The Battle at Guan Du
Before the bend leading to Chun Yuqiong it is near a set of houses by the river.
The Battle of Change Ban
Southeastern portion of the village near Liu Bei's Gate Captain.
Liu Bei's Forces: Cao Pi (Cao Cao's sub general, appears after Cao Cao arrives Northeast of him heading through the village in the center of the map)
The Battle at Chi Bi
Northeast corner of the map.
Sun Quan's Forces: Cao Pi (Appears after Fire Attack succeeds)
The Battle at He Fei
Island between Lu Xun & Xiahou Dun's starting positions.
Sun Quan's Forces: Cao Pi (Cao Cao's sub general covering the West gate to his inner castle)
Cao Cao's Forces: Sun Shang Xiang (Zhou Yu's sub general, starts near Dian Wei)
The Battle at Yi Ling
Near the center of the Stone Sentinel Maze.
Liu Bei's Forces: Sun Shang Xiang (Sun Quan's sub general, starts near the Northwest entrance to the Main Camp)
The Battle at Wu Zhang Plains
The village near Dian Wei & Ma Chao's starting position in the East, between a small set of houses near the Eastern wall.
Liu Bei's Forces: Cao Pi (Cao Cao's sub general to his West in the Main Camp)
Luminous Sword
This is a special sword drop which gives a higher than normal Attack increase at +10 regardless of the difficulty while others would go as high as +8, this sword is found in three instances.
The Battle at Chang Ban (Liu Bei's Forces): Xiahou En.
The Battle at Chang Ban (Cao Cao's Forces): Zhao Yun.
The Battle at He Fei (Sun Quan's Forces): Zhang Liao.
