The head chef of Yanquan, one of the side characters from Chuuka Ichiban. He was Liu Maoxing's teacher and father of Zhao Meili. Before the event of Chuuka Ichiban, he was once the rival of Li Yan and won against him in a competition which resulted in Zhao Yu marrying Meihua, while Li Yan bore a grudge against him.

Zhao Yu was highly skilled in cooking, but rarely demonstrated in the manga. Surprisingly, his skill in competitive eating was demonstrated more.

In the competition at the Forbidden Palace, Zhao Yu came to aid Mao, bringing the Yong Ling Dao (Eternal Spirit Knife) with him.

Zhao Yu did not have a signature cooking utensil. In the Indonesian translation, he is known as Chouyu.
