Zara came from a long-lived tribe known as the Jade Warriors. She was banished form her tribe when she refused to go through with an arranged marriage. She took up an employ to be Kaleina's bodyguard. When Kaleina suddenly disappeared, Zara felt honor bound to protect her daughter Shakari. Zara later participated in Shakari's plot to overthrow her father.
