A chef, and one of the main heroes of Chuuka Ichiban. Mao started as a little chef from Sichuan, living with his sister, Liu Jialing. One day, after his mother's death, he was involved in a competition over the inheritance of Juxialou against Shao An. He won over Shao An, but was sent to Guangzhou to hone his skill at a well known restaurant, Yanquan. He met Zhao Meili who works as a waitress and her father, Zhao Yu who works as the head chef, and a fellow low-ranked chef named Tang Sanjie.
Eventually Mao's skill developed earning the title of Supreme Chef, along with Lan Feihong. He traveled across China and gained a young apprentice, Si Lang. After a series of events, he decided to return to Guangzhou and was appointed as one of the highest rank chef in Yanquan. During his duty he competed with Jie Lu and Lei En, both of which became his traveling companion.
Mao's journey then evolved to collecting all legendary cooking utensils which included a series of competition against the members of Underground Cooking Society, eventually lead up to showdown against their leader, Kai You in the Forbidden Castle. After Kai You's defeat and unfortunate death, he battled once more with Fei to a draw, earning a right to become a chef to the palace.
In the end, Mao decided not to accept the job at the palace, and instead travel across China with all his friends.
Mao does not have a signature utensil, except a frying pan he got from Sanjie. However, in one part of the story, he gained acceptance from a legendary cooking utensil, a meat cleaver named Yong Ling Dao (Eternal Spirit Knife). In Indonesian translation, he is called Liu Mao Tsing.
